Hello Once More!

9 08 2008

Hey MVPs! Its been a while, hope you guys are doing well and giving your life its best shot. Hope the camp has made an impact in you and that you are living an empowered life every single day. Anyway, would like to share a video with you. This is from BRITAIN’S GOT TALENT. It’s about a boy, an awesome dancer who even though got turned down during auditions came back fighting and deserving nothing but the best- the crown of the competition. Perhaps it is an example we can take a leaf from that sometimes we should always have faith and keep perservering and change our strategy! Once we hit our winning strategy (like the dance routine he came up with!) we will get the success we truly fought for.

ROCKY!

1 06 2008

During the camp, we saw a movie called ROCKY 3. Its important while it was an exciting boxing movie, its also crucial for us to learn a thing or two from the movie that we can apply to our lives…

Rocky 3 has many lessons for us to reap from. Watch it if you may. But heres the gist of the story in short. Rocky, the world champion, loses to the a new arrogant rookie Clubber Lang. In addition, Mickey his trainer and mentor, dies. A fallen man, Rocky is short of inspiration and was a shadow of his former self. He turns to a fellow boxer he defeated before to train him for a rematch with Clubber. But he is simply going through the motions and does not put in much to his training, he does not have the heart. Apollo keeps going and does his best…no matter how hopeless the situation feels. The turning point comes when his wife, his rock, comes to confront him and asks him whats wrong and he says, he’s scared. He keeps saying to leave achieving to tommorrow…but his wife says ‘There’s no tommorrow’. After speaking with his heart, he is determined to make a comeback. And what a comeback that was, he changed his attitude, he put in his heart and soul and he shows what is famously known as the ‘Eye of the Tiger’, the will to succeed. Against all odds, he manages to knock out his adversary and reclaim the title.

And in it are some lessons for us…

Who is the Apollo in our lives and how are we responding to him? Or are we playing the Apollo and how can we do to people what Apollo brought out in Rocky?

Like boxing, life will give us a rematch in one way or another. Do we dwell on that championship match we lost or what are we going to put in that rematch?

in the movie, his brother in law, Paulie keeps putting Rocky down. Who is the Paulie in our life and how are we responding to him?

Rocky’s wife speaks to his heart and asks him to express himself and let go of his fears, to let it all out. Speak from the heart. Only when we are able to do so when we confront what is holding us back can we move forward.

Like she said, there is no tommorrow…cos Today is Yesterday’s Tommorrow….

Eye of the Tiger. Do we have that eye of the tiger Rocky displays in the latter part of the movie. For NLP learning, do also compare Rocky’s phsyiology from the earlier part of the clip to the later part….Going back, do we have the eye of the Tiger, the will and hunger to succeed? It far outweighs our talents and skill sets…Remember the mind can take you far … the rest is just your heart…

Last part is when Apollo gives his boxing suit for Rocky to wear out with pride. In this, we discern that sometimes it is the little things that we do, when we put our faith in others, when we plant seeds of confidence that we bring the best in them….and thus ourselves…..

ROCKY brings true reflection to life.

The higher we clap, the more successful we will be.

30 05 2008

Throughout the camp, we did a special exercise called the success clap. We had to put our hands 90 degrees parallel to the ground and clap above our heads in unison. Never do properly? Start again or get more claps assigned to us. ONE MAN STRUGGLE, WE ALL STRUGGLE. Like a quote from the movie drumline, ONE TEAM, ONE SOUND. And in the end all of you did it and completed it, didnt you? And in the process, you enjoyed it. Remember STRETCHING OPENS YOU UP TO NEW POSSIBILITIES.At first, you think you couldnt but you persevered till the end, and you felt shiok. Furthermore, you didnt do it as one person one man you did it as a team, all the way till the end. Remember in life, you can also accompish things together with the person on the left and right, your friends, teachers and parents. It’s going to be difficult but if you stretch enough you will get the result no matter how long. And that’s what we meant by THE HIGHER AND THE MORE WE CLAP THE MORE SUCCESSFUL YOU WILL BE!cos the more you do the more you stretch and struggle the stronger you become to face any challenges heaped upon you. So from this simple exercise, let it be a reminder that if you believe and put in 100 per cent, you can achieve anything you want!

The Suicide Run

29 05 2008

The suicide run was popularised by the fictional character COACH CARTER in the movies. In Stadium, we used it as part of our activities. Remember we kept using the parade square and when the command was shouted , “TO THE BASELINE!” we started our suicide runs. Basically we had to run to one line and back, the second line and back, the third line and back, the second line and back. continously until the whistle blew. It was tiring and stretching and we had to keep on going no matter how slow we were. We had to put in 100 per cent in the activity and persevere no matter how hard it was going to be. When the going get tough, the tough get going. From this simple activity, we learn never to give up and we learnt to do it together. One man struggle we all struggle, one man triumph we all triumph. From this activity, you have seen the strength of your character. Have confidence and apply this strength of character to everything in your life! If you ever feel like giving up, just think about how you almost wanted to give up during the suicides, but you persevered! The camp has ended now and you see how time flies. Yes the bad news is time flies, but the good news is you are the pilot. YOU ARE THE PILOT OF YOUR DESTINY, YOUR FUTURE.

Choices have consequences. CHOOSE TO WIN!

Who I am Makes A Difference

29 05 2008

On the third day, it was time for rookies to turn into MVPs cos they truly deserved it for pushing through their limits. The walk on the second day was tiring and stretching yet they still put in the 100 per cent to give all that they have to reach the outcome. If this is possible, anything in life will be possible. Its all a matter of belief! Because WHATEVER YOU THINK YOU ARE ALWAYS RIGHT.if you think you cant you cant, if you think you can you can! So remember MVPs, you are always the no1 player in your life. Lets all start playing the game of life and play it to win!

Who you are makes a true difference to yourself and others all around you:)

AMAZING RACE of CHOICE

27 05 2008

We went through an AMAZING RACE of CHOICE today. After solving the puzzle last night, the coaches told us we got 6 hours of sleep and can choose what time to set off. Its going to be a race (Can only take 1 bus ride and 1 MRT ride) to the end. The winner will have positive consequences dished out! The first clue we got was to go to Little Guilin where we enjoyed a bit of scenery while attempting to throw a frisbee properly. Then we were off to KRANJI WAR MEMORIAL to find Yusof Ishak’s tomb. Some of us searched the whole cemetery but could not find it. It was actually just beside the entrance on a spacious lawn, where Benjamin Sheares was buried on the other side. Here is a picture of us at the tomb!  Then we went on to a place called Salvation Army to rest for 1.5 hours while we strategise for the next leg of the trip. The next leg was very shiong as we had to climb all the way to the summit of BUKIT TIMAH. However, we did it as a team and everybody putting 100 per cent and push to the limit.  The next part of the race was even more tiring. At Rifle Range Road, the road seemed never ending but with a long way to go, all it takes is for you to have the right attitude! After Rifle Range Road we had to do a supermarket spreee with Coach Ridtz as we stood outside the KAP Macs to gather items that can only amount up to 20 dolalrs! The next part was even more exciting as the groups’ energy level became high and they rushed to complete the FILL IN THE BOTTLE activity. With teamwork and the spirit to do WHATEVER IT TAKES, we can always succeeed! The last portion was something we always were challenged with…suicide runs! Again here we truly showed ALL FOR ONE ONE FOR ALL. And even thou some groups did not get first, whats important was that WE PLAYED TO WIN! and in each of us there is an MVP waiting to be unleashed! So 16 hours 7 destinations and 50 km better, we came back accomplished and feeling stronger!

Remember the Titans

26 05 2008

Today is the first day of camp. In the afternoon, we went through a segment called REMEMBER THE TITANS. Our coaches brought us through our paces, and this was the training we must go through to go from ROOKIE to MVP and run the RACE of our lives tommorrow. In this segment, we had to brush up our basics in order for us to be a BIG GAME player. A CHAMPION.

Amongst them was the pieceing of a jigsaw puzzle as a group. This seems so simple yet it brought us together cos each of us is like a jigsaw piece. Only when we find one another and find the perfect fit can we see the bigger picture. And it demanded a lot of patience and strive for excellence of which we had a lot of practice for.

There was also a segment based on resilience and determination. Using our body, we had to blast through a wall of ‘defenders’ (our friends) who would use their body weight to push against us. We had to move towards our objective or outcome and our friends symbolised the obstacles that we would face. Given that, we learnt that we need to FOCUS ON OUR OUTCOME and DO WHATEVER IT TAKES, be COMMITTEED to OUR GOALS 100 per cent. If such a simple yet meaningful activity could be done by us, we can definitely take on other challenges in life, right?

Welcome to Stadium :Theatre of Dreams

26 05 2008

This is STADIUM @ West 2 Cluster. Over here, we have rewritten the rules and we seek an experience that is totally different from what you have been encountering thus far. In this camp, our main theme is our ability to stretch our potential. And stretching opens us up to new possibilities. Things that we didnt know are possible become part and parcel of us. It is all in the mind. If we believe we can we can. Today is the first day of the rest of our lives cos today we will truly discover who we really are…
